The rose has been cultivated since ancient Persia, where it was already distilled to extract rose water. Introduced to Bulgaria in the 17th century by the Ottomans, it found an ideal climate there in the Kazanlak Valley, since nicknamed "Rose Valley" and becoming the world reference for rose essential oil production.
